Lesson 2: Al ristorante / At the restaurant

Ciao, come stai? Spero tutto bene.
In questa lezione voglio spiegarti alcune espressioni che si usano quando si va al ristorante./In this lesson I want to explain some expressions that are used when you go to the restaurant.

Ma per prima cosa, voglio farti una domanda: conosci qualche piatto italiano?/Do you know any Italian dish?

Sono certa che il primo nome a venirti in mente sarà: “pizza”, vero? /I’m sure the first name will be: “pizza”, right?

Ma oltre alla pizza, la gastronomia italiana è ricca di piatti gustosi e anche molto salutari.

Inoltre la dieta mediterranea è l’orgoglio della cucina italiana e la rende famosa in tutto il mondo. Sei d’accordo?

Ma adesso devi leggere il dialogo e memorizzare le frasi utili./But now you have to read the dialogue and memorise the useful sentences.

Questo è un dialogo al ristorante e il tono è formale e molto educato. I due personaggi usano il “Lei” al posto del “Tu”. In italiano si usa il “Tu” quando la conversazione è informale./This is a dialogue at the restaurant, and the tone is formal and very polite. The two characters use the “Lei” instead of “Tu.” In Italian we use the “Tu” when the conversation is informal.

La frase interrogativa in italiano è caratterizzata dal punto interrogativo (?) e dall’intonazione della voce. /The interrogative sentence in Italian is characterized by the question mark (?) and by the intonation of the voice.

AL RISTORANTE – DIALOGO

Cliente /Customer– Buonasera.

Cameriere/ Waiter- Buonasera. Posso aiutarla? (May I help you?)

Cliente- Sì, grazie. Non ho una prenotazione*, ma vorrei cenare. (*I haven’t a reservation, but I’d like to have dinner).

Cameriere – Si accomodi pure lì ( take a seat there). C’è un tavolo vicino alla finestra (there is a table near the window). Arrivo subito(I’ll be right there).

Cliente- Grazie.

Cameriere – Vuole ordinare o vuole leggere il menù?(Do you want to order or do you prefer to look at the menù?)

Cliente – Vorrei il menù per favore. (I’d like the menù, please)

Cameriere – Ecco qui. (here you are)

Cliente- Grazie. Che piatto mi consiglia? (What dish do you recommend?)

Cameriere – Come piatto del giorno c’è la zuppa di pesce. ( today’s special is fish soup)

Cliente – Perfetto (Perfect), mi piace (I like) la zuppa di pesce. La prendo (I’ll take it). Per secondo vorrei una frittura di pesce con insalata come contorno ( and then a fish fry with salad like side). Grazie. (Please)

Cameriere – Cosa desidera da bere? ( What would you like to drink?)

Cliente – Una bottiglia di acqua liscia (a bottle of still water) e un bicchiere di vino bianco (and a glass of white wine).

Cameriere – Benissimo.(Very good)

Cameriere – Ecco la sua cena. Buon appetito. (Here is your dinner. Enjoy your meal)

Cliente – Grazie. (thank you)

Cameriere – Desidera altro? ( Can I get you anything else?)

Cliente – Sì grazie (Yes, please), vorrei un sorbetto al limone e anche un caffè( I’d like a lemon sorbet and a coffe). Ah, anche il conto per favore. ( Ah also the bill, please)

Cameriere – Ecco il suo dolce e anche il caffè. (Here is your dessert and your coffe)

Cameriere – Il conto è di 35 euro. ( the bill is 35 euros)

Cliente – Posso pagare con la carta di credito. (May I pay with credit card?)

Cameriere – Sì, certo. (Yes, sure)

Cliente – Arrivederci.

Cameriere – Grazie. Buonanotte.
